4MAT 4 Geometry was authored by Mike Arlien and Colleen Hodenfield who are both classroom teachers who have been certified as 4MAT Trainers. Mike and Colleen were also created 4MAT 4 Algebra, a highly successful course for teaching Algebra I that is now being used by thousands of teachers throughout the country.
Mike Arlien - Mike Arlien has taught high school math for over fourteen years. He has a Master’s Degree in Mathematics and has a Secondary Principal’s Credential. Mike has taught math at all levels, grades 8-12 and has taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry for many years.
Mike enjoys hs role as instructional leader in his district as well as the opportunity to work collaboratively with teachers to improve academic achievement and learning. Mike is also a Certified 4MAT Trainer and participates with his colleagues in a 4MAT Lesson Writing collegial group. For Mike, the 4MAT Model of Learning just made sense to him as a teacher. “The 4MAT Model has made me much more intentional in how my units are organized and delivered. It helps tap into the different ways my students learn. After I began using 4MAT, my students began to see the relevance of math. They no longer ask “when am I ever going to use this.” Mike is the President of his local Math Association and has presented at numerous conferences on how to improve the quality and impact of math instruction. Mike is also co-author 4MAT 4 Algebra.
Colleen Hodenfiled - Colleen is a prolific math teacher with over twenty years experience in the classroom. She is co-author of 4MAT 4 Algebra and 4MAT 4 Geometry and has presented this program to schools and school districts across the country, including the New Jersey Department of Education, the National Council of Teachers of Math, Mathis ISD and the Central Indiana Educational Service Center. Colleen is currently a Math Department Head at a school district in North Dakota. She is certified to teach and certify teachers in 4MAT, 4MAT 4 Algebra, and 4MAT 4 Geometry.
